Today we spend the whole day visiting the Gir National Park, last refuge of the Asiatic Lion. Visit also the Interpretation Zone and the Crocodile Breeding Farm.

Early this morning we leave for Ahmedabad. Enroute we stop briefly at Gondal to visit the Naulakha Palace. Reach Ahmedabad in time to connect the late evening flight to Delhi.

05 Delhi – Corbett National Park
This morning we leave for the Corbett National Park, named after the legendary hunter Jim Corbett. On arrival, you check in at the hotel.

Enjoy the whole day spotting wildlife in the park, which is home to wild elephants and tigers, besides a host of other creatures.

07 Corbett – Bharatpur
Drive down to Bharatpur this morning, and on arrival check in at the hotel.

08 Bharatpur – Agra
Early this morning we visit the Kaledeo Bird Sanctuary. Later we drive on to Agra, en route visiting the deserted fortress of Fatehpur Sikri. On arrival check in at the hotel. In the early evening, you will visit the Taj Mahal.

09 Agra/Jabalpur
This morning you will visit the Agra Fort. Hotel checkout is 1200 noon. Later transfer to the railway station in time to board the overnight train to Jabalpur.

10 Jabalpur – Kanha National Park
You are received on arrival and proceed to Kanha. The evening is at leisure to walk around your Resort and take a Nature Walk with one of the Naturalist Guides.

11 Kanha National Park
Enjoy the full day in the pristine jungles of Kanha, where you have the best chance among all national parks in India of spotting the tiger. You may also get the opportunity to go tiger tracking on elephant back!

12 Kanha – Gondia – Calcutta
Transfer to Gondia in time to board the overnight train to Calcutta.

13 Calcutta
Assistance on arrival and transfer to your hotel. Later visit the office of the Forest Department in order to obtain permits to visit the Sunderbans Delta Land. Time permitting you will continue with a short tour of Calcutta famous for the Victoria Memorial and the Howrah Bridge.

14 Calcutta – Sunderbans
South of Calcutta is the Sunderbans, “beautiful forests” in Bangla, formed by the delta of the rivers Ganga and Brahmaputra. This morning we leave for Basanti (4 hours), south-west of Calcutta from where we take a motor-launch over the delta waters. On arrival check-in at the Tourist Lodge.

15 Sunderbans
The morning begins with a boat ride through the various creeks to experience the Sunderbans in all their pristine glory. In the afternoon you return to Calcutta.

16 Calcutta – Guwahati
Take the morning flight to Guwahati. On arrival continue onto the Kazaringa National Park.

17 Kaziranga
Enjoy a full day looking out for wild-life at Kaziranga which includes the rhinoceros, elephant, swamp deer, sloth bear, water buffalo, goose, horn-bill, fishing eagle and other migratory and non-migratory birds.

18 Kazaringa – Guwahati

This morning we leave for Patna, capital of the state of Bihar. Enroute we visit other prominent sites of Buddhism at Nalanda and Rajgir.

Continue this morning to Kushinagar where the great Tathagata breathed his last. On arrival check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon visit Rambhar Stupa and Mahaparinirvana Temple.

10 Kushinagar – Lumbini
This morning drive to Lumbini, birth-place of The Buddha. Lumbini being in Nepal, formalities of the India/Nepal Immigration have to be completed.

We visit the Maya Devi Temple and opposite the Temple that marks the site The Buddha was born.

11 Lumbini – Kapilavastu – Balrampur
Leave this morning for Balrampur. Enroute we stop at Kapilavastu, where Prince Siddhartha Gautama (before he became The Buddha) spent his childhood. Visit the ruins of the ancient capital. In the afternoon visit Sravasti, where The Buddha spent 24 monsoons in the Jetvana Gardens.

12 Balrampur – Lucknow – Delhi
In the morning we drive to Lucknow in time to connect the train to Delhi. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel.

05 Oorcha – Khajuraho
In the morning visit Oorcha, frozen in time and space, which exists today, as it must have in the 16th and 17th century. We continue to Khajuraho. The evening is at leisure.

06 Khajuraho
Morning visit of Khajuraho. The period 950 AD to 1050 Ad saw a flowering of architecture in this small village that has no parallel. The Chandelas raised 85 temples to the glory of God, of which 22 now remain.

07 Khajuraho – Kanha
Leave this morning for Jhansi in time to board the overnight train to Gondia. Overnight on the train.

08 Kanha National Park
Assistance on arrival and transfer to Kanha National Park (100 km, 2 hrs). The morning is at leisure to orient oneself around the Resort. In the evening, we take a short safari in open jeeps inside the Park.

09 Kanha National Park
In the heart of India, the Kanha National Park has become internationally known as perhaps the most magnificent park for seeing Asian wildlife. Few areas match the diversity of Kanha’s faunal population and varied habitat. Towards mid-morning you are taken tiger tracking on elephant back (subject to availability) to the exact spot where the tiger lurks.

10 Kanha National Park – Mumbai
The morning is at leisure. Later transfer to Gondia railway station in time for your overnight train to Mumbai. Overnight on the train.

11 Arrive Mumbai

This morning enjoy a tour of Amritsar visiting the Golden Temple and the Jallianwala Bagh, where on 13 April 1919, General Dyer fired on an unarmed crowd and killed over 300 people. In the afternoon we drive to Dharamsala at the foot of the Dhauladhar Range. The town consists of upper and lower Dharamsala, its altitude varying from 3250 to 6560 feet. Upper Dharamsala is where His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, now lives.

This morning we visit the Namgyal Monastery with the Center of Tibetan Studies. It is know as the Little Lhasa and is opposite the Dalai Lama’s residence. From McLeod Ganj there are a number of interesting walks like the 2 km stroll to Bhagsunag, which has a spring and a temple, or to Dharamkot, 3 km, which has a fine view.

05 Dharamsala – Chamba
In the morning check-out from your hotel and leave for the romantic valley of Chamba. Its meadows, valleys, rivers, lakes, springs have a unique charm. On arrival check-in at your hotel. An enduring Capital City, Delhi had seen aeons of history. This morning we drive past the markers of Lutyens-Bake Delhi in the Presidential Palace, the imposing North & South Blocks, the circular pillared House of Parliament and the War Memorial of India Gate. We visit the 72.5 meters tall Qutab Minar, a memorial of victory and an accessory to the adjoining Quwwatu’l Islam (Might of Islam) Mosque, symbolic of victory. The mosque was built between 1192-1198 AD. In the courtyard stands a rust-free iron pillar, raised originally as a standard of Lord Vishnu by Chandra Gupta, a ruler in the 4th century. In the afternoon we tour the prominent monuments left by the Mughal rulers. The Red Fort stands on the eastern edge of the old walled city, opposite the marketing street of Chandni Chowk (silver square). The palaces within the Fort are mostly in marble, along what was once the riverfront. About a mile west of the Fort is the Jamma Masjid, constructed by Shah Jahan during 1651-56 AD. It is the largest in India. We visit Raj Ghat, where Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of India was cremated after being ruthlessly shot by an assassin. Drive past the Purana Quila, citadel of the second Mughal emperor Humayun. Overnight at the hotel.

Early morning check-out from the hotel drive to Agra. Enroute you may stop briefly to see the tomb of the third Mughal emperor Akbar at Sikandra located within spacious gardens. On arrival check-in at your hotel. In the afternoon we will visit the Taj Mahal, raised to the endless love of a man for his woman. The vastness of geometric perfection and balance with design, together with the finesse of the rich inlay work with semi-precious stones in white marble is executed with great skill. It marks the most developed stage of Mughal architecture. The designer is believed to be Ustad Ahmad Lahori. It is the mausoleum of Empress Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved spouse of Shah Jahan. The Agra Fort, which lies on the bend of the river Yamuna. Built by Akbar over 1565-73 AD,it was successively occupied and added to by Jehangir and Shah Jahan. The prominent edifices inside are Jahangiri Mahal, Khas Mahal, the vineyard anguri Bagh, the ornamental bath Shish Mahal and Masumman Burj where Shah Jahan died a captive of his son Aurangzeb, passing his last days gazing misty-eyed where his beloved lay entombed in the Taj Mahal. On his death, he was buried there too, on her right for all eternity. Overnight at the hotel.

This morning we leave for Jaipur, a city of jewels and the “Pink City” of Rajasthan. Enroute lies the imperial ruins of Fatehpur Sikri, chiseled of red-sandstone, with its many halls, gates and palaces.Their design combine several regional elements of regional architecture with that of Central Asia and Iran. It has many fine monuments. Fatehpur Sikri was raised by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar as a city expressing his ideas and vision, where he carried out experiments in art and architecture. Continue onto Jaipur and check-in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

05 Jaipur
The morning begins with a ride on a caparisoned elephant up to the Amber Fort established in the 16th century by Raja Man Singh of the Kachhawa dynasty, and expanded by his descendants. On the way we shall see one of the best known sights of Jaipur, the Hawa Mahal. Within the fort are ornate palaces, courts, stairways, pillared pavilions and palaces that recall the glory and wealth of Amber’s association with the Mughals. Raja Man Singh was the Commander-in-Chief of Akbar’s army, and Mirza Raja Jai Singh the founder of Jaipur, was a powerful ally of Jahangir.

We return to the City Palace. The Museum houses textiles, arms, carpets, paintings and manuscripts, and other artistic paraphernalia. Across the walls is the Royal Astronomical Observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh the founder of Jaipur. Its precision is a unique achievement for the early 18 century. Overnight at the hotel.
